Penguin Computing's Network product family includes innovative, pioneering Open Switch platforms, SDN (Software Defined Networking) software stacks, and related cabling, transceivers, and accessories. The current portfolio spans modern data center networking technologies from 1Gb to 10, 25, 40, and 100Gb Ethernet, and multiple software partners.
The position, Solution Engineer - Networking, is an internal and external go-to person for everything SDN and networking at Penguin. Role contributes to the definition and execution of the product roadmap, delivers subject matter expertise in interactions with customers and internal stakeholders, and also helps to shape and deliver the external message under the direction of ASG leadership. Role requires hands-on familiarity with fundamental data center networking technologies and concepts, including Layer-2 and Layer-3 switching / routing and physical infrastructure, such as cabling and optics. Prior exposure to SDN technologies is a plus.
Solution Engineer is expected to 1) learn and 2) train others on multiple new/emerging software and hardware technologies. Formal training courses generally do not exist in these areas. Solution Engineer needs to be a self-motivated learner, leveraging industry contacts, and independent, hands-on lab work. Similarly, Solution Engineer is expected to cross-train in ASG solution areas and maintain general knowledge of Penguin products and services.
Support major presales engagements in senior technical expert capacity.
Drive complex, escalated support issues to conclusion with suppliers / partners.
Coordinate and execute hardware / software validation activities with suppliers and internal engineering.
Maintain ongoing technical contacts and dialogue with silicon, software, ODM, and accessory suppliers and with Penguin’s customers.
Contribute to technical, sales, and marketing documentation and collateral.
Organize and drive internal and vendor-driven training for sales, sales engineering, and engineering personnel.
Contribute input regarding technical direction of the product.
BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience with Linux & IP networking.
Strong sense of initiative, responsibility, and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
