Penguin Computing delivers complete private and public cloud solutions for customers for various scales and use cases. Cloud solutions are architected with Penguin hardware and both Penguin and partner software layers, including OpenStack distributions from Red Hat, Canonical, Mirantis, and other ISV partners.
The position, Solution Engineer - Cloud, is an internal and external go-to person for all software component technologies found in cloud environments: virtualization, containers, automation, orchestration, and OpenStack. Role delivers subject matter expertise and technology recommendations in interactions with customers, Penguin’s Solution Architects, and internal stakeholders, and also provides input to the external marketing message under the direction of ASG leadership. Role requires hands-on familiarity with Linux operating system, virtualization technologies, and experience with cloud deployments and management.
The Solution Engineer is expected to pick up and learn multiple current and new cloud stack solutions, set up reference configurations in lab setting, provide technology recommendations to presales teams, and help build teams to deliver solutions to customers. Formal training courses generally do not exist in these areas. Solution Engineer needs to be a self-motivated learner, leveraging industry contacts, and independent, hands-on lab work. Similarly, Solution Engineer is expected to cross-train in ASG solution areas and maintain general knowledge of Penguin products and services.
Support major presales engagements in senior technical expert capacity.
Drive complex, escalated support issues to conclusion with technology partners.
Coordinate and execute hardware / software validation activities with technology partners and internal engineering.
Maintain ongoing technical contacts and dialogue with technology partners and with Penguin’s customers.
Contribute to technical, sales, and marketing documentation and collateral.
Organize and drive internal and vendor-driven training for sales, sales engineering, and engineering personnel.
Contribute input regarding technical direction of the product.
BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience with Linux and data center deployments / system administration.
Strong sense of initiative, responsibility, and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
